Four of these focus on the health of the county’s rivers and streams.
Awards totaling $126,000 provide continued support for agencies working to protect local watersheds and remediate invasive species in local forests: the Bronx River Alliance will coordinate watershed management efforts for the Bronx River; Groundwork Hudson Valley will revive the Saw Mill River Coalition; the Wildlife Conservation Sociey will improve fresh water passage for American eels in the Hutchinson River; and the Mianus River Gorge Preserve will remove invasive species affecting trees in the Mianus watershed, a drinking water source for 130,000 county residents.
